About the Job

The MIA is a rapidly expanding Indian NGO based in New Delhi. In order to keep pace with our growth, we seek to appoint a self-motivated, out-of-the-box thinking super star Head of Fundraising to create and develop all aspects of the the MIA Development Department.

Job Description

The Head of Fundraising will be responsible for the creation, planning, implementation, management and oversight of all aspects related to fundraising for the MIA. Additionally, the Head of Fundraising will provide leadership and guidance for communications, and related matters. He/she will coordinate a team of Development Officers to achieve the fundraising objectives for the organization. The Head of Fundraising reports to the Director of Operations and works closely with other departments.

The Head of Fundraising must be a skilled manager, capable of directing, motivating, and developing staff in addition to advancing a sustainable and innovative fundraising program to support a growing organization. This person should have a demonstrated track record in a broad range of fundraising strategies.

Specific responsibilities include
  • Leading the development department with an overall responsibility for creating, developing and managing all aspects of the Fundraising function at the MIA
  • Overseeing the writing of funding proposals, supporting documentation, and other correspondence
  • Providing strategic development advice to the Director of Operations, senior management, and program staff and identifying and resolving fundraising challenges
  • Leading development and testing new strategies for achieving a sustainable annual operating funding base
  • Leading, mentoring, reviewing and formally evaluating development staff performance to ensure excellence. Maintaining regular communication with other staff to ensure that timely underwriting of projects
  • Developing and managing budgets and preparing financial reports; managing the MIA's fundraising timetable
  • Managing resources, including budgets and staff time, in an efficient and effective way
  • Developing and overseeing the database for all donors and prospective donors of the MIA
  • Assisting in the solicitation or directly soliciting prospects
  • Preparing fundraising reports and analyses for the Director of Operations
  • Contributing to organizational excellence as a member of the Executive Team
Qualification required
  1. Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of fundraising experience with a demonstrated track record of success with major donors, private and family foundations, and leadership management
  2. Must be a skilled leader, capable of directing, motivating, and inspiring staff
  3. High energy, positive, "can-do" attitude, flexibility, able to work with a team or alone, self-motivated, and self-confident with attention to detail and a high degree of initiative
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
  5. Demonstrated ability to research, identify and cultivate new funding prospects
  6. Good computer skills and knowledge of fundraising database programs
  7. Strategic "outside-the-box" thinker; highly organized and able to meet deadlines and budgets
  8. Strong time, budget, and organizational management skills, including the capacity to work on several projects simultaneously
  9. Experience in working with NGOs and/or in the microfinance sector is an added value
