The Micro Insurance Academy (MIA) is a Delhi-based Charitable Trust (NGO) dedicated to providing technical assistance in insurance domain-knowledge to organizations that focus on grassroots communities. With over 40 professionals in its Delhi office, MIA is the largest global microinsurance resource center. MIA also carries out the research needed for data collection & analysis underlying effective interventions, and impact evaluation.

About the Job

The MIA is a rapidly expanding Indian NGO based in New Delhi. In order to keep pace with our growth, we seek to appoint an Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager manages all functions of the Accounting Department and regularly reports to the Director of Operations on the financial status of the company.

Job Description

Process & Systems
  1. Develop and document systems and procedures to streamline the department as well as systems for specific areas of Accounting
  2. Run and analyze reports in accounting software, ensuring invoices and bills are being processed with timeliness and efficiency
  3. Analyze P&L and make appropriate entries for cost and income balancing
  4. Keep full maintenance of the general ledger
  5. Be current with audit reports
  6. Provide reports and advice as requested by the Director of Operations
  7. Assist in forecasting and budgeting
  8. Work hands on with regard to all matters related to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll
  9. Develop and maintain an accounting close schedule
  10. Keep donor wise project accounting
  11. Handle cash and maintain the daily cash book
  12. Maintain staff P.F. records
  13. Additional duties and tasks, as necessary
Communication
  1. Work closely with and keep a good relationship with outside Accountant(s)
  2. Maintain good working relationships with all departments regarding client invoicing and vendor invoice reconciliation
  3. Regularly provide Director of Operations with status of all financial issues regarding the company
  4. Pro-actively notify Director of Operations about key tasks and overall work load priorities
  5. Additional duties and tasks, as necessary.
Qualifications required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, or experiential equivalent
  • 3-5 years experience as accounting officer
  • Proficient knowledge of accounting software
  • Proficient understanding of Indian Tax Law
  • Experience with NGO's preferred
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English and Hindi
  • Demonstrated high professional and ethical standards
  • Ability to think "outside-the-box" and develop innovative solutions
  • Ability to work independently within tasks assigned and as part of a team in terms of collaborative climate, and dedication to delivering results within a strict time-line
