Four Key Elements to Writing a Good Job Description

  1. Describe the Position well: Explain why the position is needed. Mention the overall purpose of the job.
  2. Mention Requirements Upfront: What qualifications are needed? What is the essential experience a candidate must have? Be realistic and try and differentiate what is mandatory to suit your needs, and waht is merely desirable.
  3. State Duties Clearly: Explain the day-to-day responsibilities of the position, the reporting officer and the location.
  4. State Remuneration, if Possible: Do indicate a salary range and whether it is negotiable.
